Getting started

What is Caravan?

Caravan is a shared workspace for planning group trips — itineraries, expenses, tasks, and an AI travel assistant in one place, for everyone on the journey.

Do I need an account to use Caravan?

Yes. Creating a free account lets you save trips, invite travel partners, and pick up where you left off across devices. You can sign up with email, Google, or GitHub.

How do I invite my travel companions to a trip?

Open a trip and head to Members → Invite. Share the join link with anyone you want on the trip. They'll be added as a member once they sign in and accept.

What roles can trip members have?

Each trip has three roles: host (full control, including deleting the trip and transferring ownership), manager (can edit content and manage members), and member (can view and contribute to plans). The host who created the trip starts as the only host.

Plans & billing

Is there a free plan?

Yes. Free accounts can plan a couple of trips and use core collaboration features. A paid subscription unlocks unlimited trips and the full AI assistant.

Is there a free trial of paid plans?

Every paid plan starts with a free trial. Cancel anytime during the trial and you won't be charged.

Can I change plans later?

Absolutely. Upgrade or downgrade from Settings → Billing at any time. Stripe prorates charges automatically so you only pay for what you use.

What happens if I cancel?

You'll keep paid access until the end of your current billing period. After that your trips stay intact — you just lose AI features and the unlimited-trip allowance until you resubscribe.

How are payments handled?

All payments are processed by Stripe. Caravan never sees or stores your card details — Stripe handles checkout, billing, and tax.

Trips, expenses & tasks

How does expense splitting work?

Add an expense, pick who paid, and choose how it's split (evenly, by share, or custom amounts). Caravan keeps a running tally and shows the cheapest set of settlement transfers at the end.

Can I assign tasks to specific people?

Yes. Tasks can be assigned to any trip member, given due dates, and grouped by category. Each member also gets a personal My Tasks view across every trip they're on.

Does Caravan work offline?

Yes. Caravan is a Progressive Web App — most actions queue locally if you go offline (think: a flight without Wi-Fi) and replay automatically once you're back online.

Can I install Caravan as an app?

Yes. On most browsers you'll see an install prompt, and you can install Caravan directly from your browser's address bar or share menu. Once installed it behaves like a native app, including push notifications.

AI assistant

What can the AI assistant do?

It can suggest itineraries, summarize a trip, draft packing lists, find points of interest, and answer questions about your trip's data. It only sees the trip you're asking about — not your other trips.

Why am I getting an upgrade prompt when I use AI features?

AI features require an active subscription. If you see an upgrade prompt, head to Pricing and start a trial — the assistant unlocks immediately.

Privacy & data

Who can see my trip data?

Only members of a trip can see that trip. Caravan's data layer is deny-by-default at the database level — every read goes through an authenticated server check, so misconfigured clients fail closed.

Can I delete my account or a trip?

Yes. Hosts can delete a trip from the trip's Settings tab. To delete your entire account and all associated data, contact support@developerbox.com.

Where can I read the privacy policy?

Our full privacy policy lives on the Privacy page, and the terms of service on the Terms page.
